Charles W. Emmett, 74, of Butler passed away Monday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Born in Shaler Township, Allegheny County, Sept. 18, 1935, he was the son of the late John and Mildred (Miller) Emmett Sr.

He was an engineer with Sprint Telephone Co., retiring in 1997 after 38 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Korea during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He was past president of the Federation of Telephone Workers, and he was a former director of Center Township Little League.

He is survived by his wife, Louise (Rivers) Emmett, to whom he was married for 50 years; one son, of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren and one brother and his wife of Prospect.

He also is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Allen; a brother-in-law, Ken Jenkins; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Virginia Rivers; and a number of nieces and nephews.

EMMETT - Friends of Charles W. Emmett, who died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Solberg, pastor officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.

Burial will take place in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
