Born in Hartford, CT he was the son of the late Dr. Charles S. and Mary Bailey-Gates. James grew up in West Hartford and spent his summers in Madison, CT. He graduated from Cranwell Preparatory Highschool in Lenox, MA and from Boston College in 1962.
James retired from Wesson Inc., Waterbury, CT as a Gasoline Marketing Manager in 2004.
He is also survived by his daughters, Jennifer and Allie and his son, Buckley; his brothers and spouses Paul of Piedmont, CA; Christopher and his wife Donna of Farmington, CT; Brian and his wife Beth of Fairfax, CA; sister in laws Suzanne Bailey-Gates and Anne Hunter of West Hartford, CT; brother in law Will Everitt of Cotuit, MA.
He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Peter, his sister Mary Everitt, and his sister-in-law Lesley Bailey-Gates.
He was admired by many and will always be remembered for his social ease and great sense of humor. James loved Boston College Eagles football team and the New York Yankees.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 875 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
