Funeral services for Garland T. Hampton, 63, who died August 19, 1977 will be held at the Church of Christ on Ford and Green Monday at 3 p.m. Rev. Carl Parsons will officiate.

Mr. Hampton was born in Rayland, Texas on January 5, 1914. He graduated from Wellington High School with the Class of 1930. He had been a resident of the Gallup area since 1948. He was band director for the Gallup public schools for 25 years, and a teacher for the past 34 years. He was also a self-employed driver's education teacher.

When Mr. Hampton retired from the Gallup-McKinley school system, May 13, 1973, the day was declared "Garland Hampton Day" in Gallup. In 1958 Mr. Hampton was instrumental in starting the first band at Rehoboth Mission School. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his widow, Virginia, and his son, Tom Hampton, both of Gallup. He also leaves four daughters: Mrs. Paula Dzick of Anchorage, Alaska: Wendy Wheeless of Fort Worth, Texas; Gigi Pilcher of Ketchikan, Alaska; and Leslie Silko of Laguna, New Mexico. He had seven grandchildren.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in the Elks plot. Rollie Mortuary has charge. Pallbearers will be Bernie May, Johnny Lucero, Jimmy Miller, Kenneth Holloway, Pete Cresto and Leyton Estlack.
