Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 20, 2006
at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot with the Rev. John Neuser
officiating, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
LaVerne was born Sept. 10, 1927 in Two Rivers to the late Albert and
Esther Lambert Zahorik. LaVerne's mother died when LaVerne was just 10
days old and she was then raised by her maternal grandparents; Joseph
and Elizabeth Lambert. She attended Holy Cross Grade School and
graduated from the Mishicot High School with the Class of 1946. On Jan.
13, 1951, she married Dale S. "Sparky" Eells at Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Mishicot and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1986. She was
employed as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Eells Electric,
which is now run by her son, Gerald Eells and Patrick Johnson. LaVerne
was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was an honorary member of
the Altar Society of the church. She was also a member of the VFW
Auxiliary of the Kempin-Staudinger-Terens Post 7753, where she served as
past secretary and president. She enjoyed volunteer work with the Meals
on Wheels program, the Holy Cross hot lunch program and the Mishicot
Seniro Center, where she loved to play Santa each Christmas. She also
enjoyed playing sheepshead, polka music, especially the Joe Karman and
Romy Gosz bands.
Survivors include her three children, her daughter and son-in-law, Judy
and Robert Ferry of Mishicot; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and
Terri Eells of Mishicot, Jim and Kelly EElls of Shoto; four
grandchildren, Tina (Brian) Sorvari, Ham Lake, Minn., Tom (Katie) Ferry
of Manitowoc; Jesse (Shona) Eells of Manitowoc; Jamie (Jeff) McConachie
of Two Rivers and six great grandchildren; Stephanie Scherer-Johnson,
Ravin Ferry-LeClair, Ethan Ferry and Ashton Ferry, all of Manitowoc;
Isaac and Owen Sorvari of ham Lake, Minn. She is further survived by
nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Friday at the
Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home in Mishicot. There will be a 7 pm VFW
Auxiliary memorial service Friday evening. Visitation will continue
after 10 am on Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with a 10:30 am
Altar Society rosary service followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at
11 am. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
LaVerne's family would like to express a very special thank you to the
entire staff of both the Wisteria Haus of Two Rivers and St. Mary's Home
for the wonderful care they provided to LaVerne during her illness.
