Immigrated from Germany with his parents Heinrich and Elizabeth and older brother Max Hermann Diederich in 1885. First living in Pennsylvania before they along with 2 sisters born in the USA Mayme and Dorothy came to Indiana. His first wife Emma Greyer Diederich died from childbirth complications in 1910. 5 children were born to them Fran, Herbert, Betty, Bob and Joe.
