Funeral services for Billy E. Tharp, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Providence with the Rev. Michael Dietrich officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Tharp died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at his residence. He was born Aug. 22, 1931, in Leona to the late Samuel Lee and Katie Irene Tharp. He graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1948 and attended Texas Tech from 1950-53. He married Helen Faye Roberts on June 1, 1957, in Dallas. They moved to the Providence community from Tulia in 1976. He farmed and enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry Tharp of Bastrop, Timmy Gaither of Amarillo and Douglas Tharp of Providence; one daughter and one son-in-law, Donna and Randall Ward of Golden, Colo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Nancy Tharp of Shallowater; one sister and brother-in-law, Nelta and George Albright of Denton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His sister, Francis Skipper, is deceased. The family suggest memorials to Hospice Hands of West Texas, P.O. Box 1118, Lockney, TX 79241 or the Lubbock V.A. Clinic, Attn.: Laura McGlone, 6104 Ave. Q. South Dr., Lubbock, TX 79412.
