LYME, N.H. - Brenda Fagan Isaacs, 63, of Lyme, N.H., formerly of Mendon, Vt., passed away on February 18, 2009, after a long battle with ovarian cancer, in Palm Desert, Calif. She was born on October 31, 1945, in Washington, D.C., and grew up on various naval air stations throughout the USA. She graduated valedictorian from St. John's Country Day School in Jacksonville, Fla., and received her B.A. in economics from Duke University in Durham, N.C., in January 1967.

Brenda leaves behind her husband, Barry Isaacs of Lyme, N.H.; her sisters, Beverly Lemieux of Lakeland, Fla., Barbara Williams of Hickory, N.C.; and her brother, Robert Fagan of New Paltz, N.Y.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Captain and Mrs. Robert H. Fagan (Captain, USN Ret.) and a brother, John Fagan. All three are buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Brenda began her career in January 1967 with IBM Corporation in White Plains, N.Y., as a junior programmer. She spent 30 years in total with IBM working in various technical and management positions in the areas of development, forecasting, business planning and market research. While she spent most of those years in the White Plains, N.Y., area, she lived in London, England, from 1991 thru 1994.

In 1995, Brenda retired with her husband, Barry, to their home in Mendon, Vt., that they built in 1973. Entering a new phase of her career, Brenda majored on "giving back" becoming the chairman of the Civic Beautification Committee of the Rutland Garden Club. She and other Garden Club members worked with Rutland City managers to implement an improvement program for the city's parks. In 2007, Brenda and her husband moved to Lyme, N.H., to be closer to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She formed and was chairman of the landscape committee for The Village at Dartmouth College Highway condominium development.

An avid golfer, Brenda had been a member of the Woodstock CC, Green Mountain National GC and the Hanover CC throughout her time in the area. She was a member of the Ann Story Chapter, DAR, Rutland, VT, from 12/2005 until she passed away..

Donations in Brenda's memory can be made to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Brenda would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for their outstanding care and compassion throughout her long illness.

A celebration of Brenda's life is planned for the spring.
