Born in Newport, WA on March 19th, 1934 and went to Heaven on May 31, 2016. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Eddie) Devine and her sister, Theis Linkous. She leaves behind her husband Dale Blair, son Ronald Devine (Jennifer), daughter Dawn Swanson (David) and grandkids Travis Devine, Hannah Devine, Lauren Devine, Jacob Devine, Courtney Swanson, Dereck Swanson, Cameron Swanson, Michelle Gillham; her stepchildren, Benita Leavy (Kevin), Michael Blair (Sherry), Patrick Blair (Leslie) and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy was the third child in a family of eight kids. She also leaves behind six siblings: Naomi Huey (Morey), Maureen Chinn (her twin), Eugene Schermerhorn (Judy), Anne Morris (Marvin), Wayne Schermerhorn (Jill), and Byron Schermerhorn. She lived most of her childhood in Idaho and attended Gem State Academy boarding school. She moved to Spokane in her early 20s were she attended nursing school. She later earned her bachelor's degree in finance from the New York School of Finance. While she was completing her correspondence school, Kathy enjoyed working for the Forest Service as a fire watcher on Mica Peak and other various outposts. Once she completed her degree, she became one of the first women stock brokers in Spokane and worked for Blythe, Eastman, Dillon and Company for seven years. She later worked for Johnson Controls as a controller/office manager and then, before her retirement in 1996, she worked for Prebuilt Structures and Spokane Insulation.
Kathy met her first husband at the roller skating rink where they became competitive dance skating partners. She was married for 49 years before being widowed. As a young adult one of her favorite recreations was water skiing. She taught her brother, neighbors, kids and anyone willing to learn how to water ski.
She enjoyed gardening and volunteering at her church and grandkid's elementary school. She later met the love of her life and married, Dale in 2011. Together, they traveled to Israel, Jordan, and Italy, volunteered for various church functions and watched the Seahawks, Mariners and Gonzaga basketball games faithfully. One of her favorite sport to watch was her twin grandkids wrestle. She and Dale were known by all the wrestling families. She was feisty but her smile would cheer everyone up. She is going to be greatly missed by all.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division Street. A Rosary Service will follow at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 4th, 2016 10:00am at St. Josephs Parish, 3720 E. Colbert Road, Colbert, WA. The graveside Service will be held following the service at Holy Cross Cemetery at 12:00pm.
Hennessey Funeral Home Division Street Location has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
