Gerald Russell "Jerry" Alexander, 89, of rural Paris, Illinois, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at his residence.

He was born October 7, 1926 in Potomac, Illinois, the son of the late Charles Douglas and Cora Florence (Cook) Alexander. He married Norma Jean Pullum on February 3, 1951 in Danville, Illinois. She preceded him in death April 10, 2001.

Survivors include a son, Craig "Alex" (Cheryl) Alexander; a sister, Connie Stout; a granddaughter, Diana (Scott) Aselage; two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews and his dear friend and companion, Juanita Eggleston.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Bradley Alexander and two sisters, Lois Stabill and Margaret Nolan.

He was retired after several years as a security officer at TRW of Marshall. He had previously worked for many years in security at the former Zenith Co. of Paris and as a foreman for Illinois Cereal Mills. He was also a lifelong livestock farmer.

Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps as a tail gunner during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Paris, American Legion Post #211 and the Edgar County Farm Bureau.
