Phil Brooks Smith, age 88 years, a resident of the Harpertown Community, Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Sunday morning, September 24, 2006 at his home.

He was born Saturday, March 2, 1918 at Whitmer, West Virginia, a son of the late William Howard Smith and Roxie Jane Dolly Smith.

On November 27, 1943 he was married to the former Catherine Genevieve Shearer who survives. Also surviving is one son, Philip B. Smith, Elkins; one daughter, Patricia Ann Gabbert and husband Ben William, Waynesburg, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Nicole Leigh Gabbert Walls and two great grandchildren, Steven and Carly Walls.

Preceding him in death is one brother, Jack Ford Smith.

Phil was a graduate of Coalton High School and Northwestern University and had worked as Vice President and Trust Officer at the Citizens National Bank where he was instrumental in starting the Trust Department, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.

Mr. Smith's request for cremation was honored. A Mass will be celebrated in his honor at 11 AM, Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church with the Reverend Father William Anderson as the Presider.
