DIED RIPE IN YEARS.
Mr. James W. Donnelly died this morning at 6:30 o'clock at his late residence on Waverly Terrace, aged 74 years. His death was due to old age. Mr. Donnelly was horn in County Armagh, Ireland, his parents coming to this country and locating in Baltimore, when he was only two years of age, where a portion of the family were drowned in the flood at Jones Fall. When the deceased was 10 years of age he came to Cumberland and at that tender age worked on the canal. Later he became a sub-boss on construction work on this end of the canal under the late John B Humbird. He afterwards formed a partnership known as Donnelly and Ways, Builders and Contractors. They also conducted a grocery store on North Centre Street. Mr. Donnelly built many of the residences and business houses in this city. He was president of the Pioneer Hose Company for 13 years, and was a member of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church about 40 years. He was also a member of the Ohr Lodge. No. 131, A.F.& A.M which order will have charge of the funeral. He was married to Miss Harriet Rebecca Ways, daughter of the late S. D Ways, Sr. Mrs. Donnelly died nine years ago. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of Cumberland, and knew its history perfectly. He was a man of kindly disposition and well liked by everyone. He is survived by five children, viz: Chas. W. Donnelly, manager of the Daily News; Will C. Donnelly, with the firm of Stewart & MacDonald, B altimore; Harry K. Donnelly, a member of the Allegany County Bar, and Misses Susie M. and Anna E. Donnelly, all of whom reside at the Donnelly home with the one exception. The funeral w ill take place Friday morning at 10:30 o ’clock from St. Paul’s English Lutheran church. Will leave the residence at 10 o’clock. Interment in the Donnelly lot in German Lutheran cemetery.
