George W. Cornia, age 90, passed away on May 13, 2016 due to natural causes. Born October 5, 1925 to Peter Ray and Ethel Warton Cornia in Ogden, Utah.
Attended West High School, lettered in football and baseball. Received athletic (football) scholarship to attend USAC Logan, Utah (1944) played quarterback and also punter. Was a competitor in amateur and semi pro baseball, fast pitch softball. Awarded MVP player in the 1958 ASA Rocky Mountain Regional Softball Tournament. Played in five world softball tournaments and Inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame in 1985. Enjoyed bowling and golf.
Married Darlene Dykes in 1945. Together they had five children, later divorced. Married Clea Chidester, divorced. Married Beverly VanWagenen, divorced. Married Elaine J. Jones June 26, 1981.
Survived by children Diana Lynn Anderson (Jim), Steven J. (Julie), daughter-in-law Annette, Stepchildren Michael W. Jones (Eilene), Peggy Lee Rich (Bill) and Jan Marie Peterson (Ross) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, brothers Willis Howard (Bill) (Betty), Douglas Max (June), Niles (Peggy, June), sons Jerry Wayne, Randy Ray, daughter Georgeanna (stillborn), stepson Donald Laine Jones, stepson-in-law Alan Rich.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, where friends may call from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
