Bishop Reginald Heber was The 2nd son of Thomas Heber, and Elizabeth Atherton. He was born in 1728 on his elder brother's death. Without male heirs, he succeeded him as Lord of the Manor and patron of the Rectories of Marton in Yorkshire, and of Hodnet in the county of Salop, which last estate had, by intermarriage with the house of Vernon.

He married first, Mary, co-heiress of the Rev. Martin Boylie, Rector of Wrentham in Suffolk, who died, leaving on son, Richard, late M. P. for the University of Oxford.

He married 2nd, Mary, daughter of Cuthbert Allanson, D. D. by whom he left three children, Reginald, Thomas Cuthbert and Mary.
