CAPTAIN DANA'S FUNERAL.
The funeral of our late superintendent of police, Captain Dana, which took place yesterday, was one of the most numerously attended that has ever been witnessed in Geelong. At half-past two, when the hearse was seen going up to his late residence, thousands of men, women, and children, of high and low degree, congregated in the street and waited patiently for the appearance of the coffin.

When this was deposited in the hearse the long cortege slowly made its way along Myer's street, up Yarra street, and then along Kilgour street to Christ's Church, which was crowded to excess. At the door of the church the corpse was met Rev. George Goodman, who preceded it in its passage along the aisle to the altar, before which it was placed upon tressles during the performance of the impressive service of the Church of England.

On the coffin were deposited the sword and slings, cross-belt, spurs, and cap of the deceased gentleman. The pulpit and lectuary were hung with black cloth. The organ, under Mr Hobday's skilful presidency, filled the church with solemn strains, the music, including the anthem of "Hear my prayer, oh! Lord," consisting of adaptations from Handel's "Saul." After the death-like silence which succeeded the last chaunt the Rev. George Goodman delivered an address which brought tears from many unaccustomed eyes.
