Wilma Janssen Goering, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Peter Jurchen and Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Columbus. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:45 AM also at the church. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour, Lutherans For Life, Columbus Public Library, or Paws & Claws Humane Society.

Wilma Janssen Goering was born July 10, 1927, in Platte County, Nebraska, near Monroe, to Gustav and Minnie (Lueke) Loseke. She was baptized on August 26, 1927, at her parents’ home and confirmed her Christian faith on April 6, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church of the Grand Prairie, rural Platte Center, Nebraska. Wilma graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus and went to work for Consumer Public Power District and later for Hinky Dinky Grocery Store for 12 years, and then went to work at Vishay/Dales for 15 years, retiring in 1998.

On February 12, 1947, Wilma was united in marriage to Ray Janssen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. The couple lived on the family farm and were members of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus. After moving to Columbus they joined Immanuel Lutheran Church where Wilma did volunteer work for 16 years in the church office entering data on the computer. She served on the Board of Stewardship and Board of Evangelism at Immanuel.

Wilma loved traveling in their Airstream Travel Trailer, and her and Ray were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International. They traveled through many states, attended numerous local, regional and international rallies. Ray died in June, 1998, and in August, 2000, Wilma was united in marriage to Ivan Goering at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Leigh, Nebraska, until moving into Prairie Village in Columbus in April 2013. Wilma enjoyed flying with Ivan in his Piper Plane and taking pictures. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross stitch, knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, and working on crafts.
