Jennie's parents were Caroline J, (nee Wearren) and William Henry Smith. She was raised in Danville, KY by her maternal grandmother after her mother's early death. In her early 20s, Jennie moved to Knoxville, TN to be near her older brother, Joe. She met and married David John Reiss there. In her second pregnancy,she gave birth to twin daughters and they died shortly after birth; they are buried in Germantown, TN. Upon his acceptance of an employment offer from Hughes Tool, Dave relocated his family from Indianapolis IN to Houston TX, and Jennie was reunited with her younger brother, John, a printer for the Houston Chronicle. Jennie, a convert to the Roman Catholic faith, was active in St. Theresa Catholic Church Ladies' Altar Society, and made the original altar linens. She was a very good cook; she sewed, quilted, embroidered and crocheted many pieces of handwork for her growing family. PID by husband Dave and brother Joe Smith. Survived by children: Joe J. Reiss, Mary Carolyn Pleasant, Jeanette Dorothy Bay and Margaret Kathryn Wimberly ; twelve grandchildren and several gr-grandchildren; and brother John Smith. Burial services held on April 8, 1968.
