Leona Pearl Riffanacht Yarrington

101, died on Wednesday at Birchwood Health Care Center. She resided in Syracuse for 48 years, moved to Centerville Court in North Syracuse in 1981 and moved to the Hearth on James Street in 2005. She re-tired in 1971 as a Kindergarten teacher with the East Syracuse Central School District. She was an active member and a deacon emeritus of Eastwood Baptist Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Mariam Circle. She was a member of the New York State United Teachers Association, the Civic Social Club of Greater Syracuse, a participant in the Relay for Life, an active member at Centerville Court and a former member of the North Syracuse Seniors. She wrote a weekly column called the Centerville Chit Chat for the Eagle Newspapers. She held a reunion with her former Kindergarten students in 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Yarrington who died November 14, 1979. Survived by her son, James C. (Florence) Yarrington of Grand Prairie, Texas; a daughter, Helen Y. Stone of North Syracuse; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
