She was born April 3, 1916, on the Mau family farm near Gratiot, the daughter of Herman and Josephine (Kruse) Mau. She attended the Mud Hollow Rural School near Gratiot. Blanche and Victor L. Burmeister were married Oct. 12, 1940 at Independence, Iowa.
She lived all her life in and around Gratiot and South Wayne. She enjoyed farming alongside her husband, Victor, for 40 years and then retired with him to South Wayne in 1970.
Soon after he died she moved to the senior center at South Wayne, living there until moving to Lafayette Manor in 2002.
She is survived by her sons: Darryle (Sharon) Burmeister, Apple Canyon Lake, Ill.; David (Jacquelyn) Burmeister, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren: Victor (Jennifer) Burmeister, Sara (Joseph) Hansberry, Matthew Burmeister, Christina (Kurt) Kroemer, Jennifer Burmeister; her great-grandchildren: Zachary and Ethan Burmeister, Karson Burmeister and Brylee Bruner. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Leo (Alma) Mau, Leona (Harry) Burmeister, Laverne (Leona) Mau, Cecil (Loretta) Mau and Florence (Peter) Brennan.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16, 2006 at South Wayne United Methodist Church. The Rev. Craig Conklin officiated. Burial was in the Gratiot United Methodist Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Blanche's memory. The Hanson Funeral Home, South Wayne, served the family.
