Shirley M. Johnson Bledsoe, 64, went home to be with the Lord October 2, 2006 at Akron City Hospital after battling a short illness.

Born in Akron, Ohio, she was a lifetime resident of this community. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and was retired from the Summit County Department of Job and Family Services after 29 years of dedicated service.

Preceded in death by her grandmother, Alice Glover; mother, Bernice Williams; father, Jasper Johnson, Jr.; and aunt, Julia J. Carter; she leaves to forever cherish her memories, beloved husband and friend, Lonnie Boyd; son, Bruce A. (Stephanie) Johnson; grandchildren, Ashley R. Canty and Bruce Jr.; great-grandchild, Ay'Shawn R. Sparlding-Candy; brothers, Jasper Jr. (LaBarbara), Darwin (Yvonne), Robert D. and Anthony Johnson, Kevin (Andrea) Edwards, Andrew and Ralph Williams; sisters, Ernestine Henry, Mary (William) Hale, Sheila James, all of Akron, Cynthia (Joseph) Averitte, Arnita (Raymond) Mathis, all of Richmond, Va.; aunts, Ella Woolridge and Willie T. Cooper; uncle, Luther Johnson, all of Akron; special friends, Gussie Townsend and Ruby Melton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 327 Cuyahoga St., with Rev. Dr. Luther C. Cooper officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Condolences may be sent to 143 W. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, 44310.
