In 1912, Letta and Adah (Hyde) Johnson were the first African American women to graduate from the State University of Iowa. Both were from Des Moines and received their degrees from the College of Liberal Arts.
She was a school teacher and educator with the Iowa public school system.
She was employed as an educator and a teacher of German and other foreign language studies at Bishop College, in Harrison County, Texas.
The announcement of her wedding engagement was celebrated on March 3, 1917 at the home of Mrs. C.H. Maxson, the wife of Mr. Charles H. Maxson, the president of Bishop College.
She is the bride of Dr. Ovid Loyotus "O.L." Bledsoe Sr., whom she wed June 20, 1917 in Mahaska, Iowa.
As husband and wife, they made a home for their family in Marshall, Texas in Harrison County.
To their union, two children were born -- a daughter, Zeta Lorraine; and a son, Ovid Loyotus Jr.
Mrs. LETTA ELAINE "LETTIE" CARY BLEDSOE was laid to rest on March 29, 1931 on the grounds of Powder Mill Cemetery in Marshall, Texas.
She preceded her husband in death.
Dr. William Watts was the physician who affirmed the state and condition of her health at the time of her death.
Her husband was the informant on the death certificate.
Service Funeral Home, as supervised by Caleb Smith, managed the burial arrangements.
