Born in Travis, Mr. Rybicki moved to Mariners Harbor in 1946. He settled in Castleton Corners in 1958.

Mr. Rybicki graduated from Port Richmond High School and attended Adelphi University in Long Island. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in Normandy, Northern France, Belgium and Germany. Mr. Rybicki was a first lieutenant infantry officer.

For over 30 years, he worked for Bankers Trust Company in Manhattan, and retired in 1981 as vice president. During his tenure, Mr. Rybicki also operated his own insurance agency and prepared tax returns.

He was a member of the American Legion Gold Star Post in Travis for over 50 years. For 40 years, Mr. Rybicki was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners, where he was a parishioner. He belonged to the Polish Roman Catholic Union.

Mr. Rybicki was an expert Scrabble player and became a computer whiz in his late 70s. He was very interested in his Polish heritage, and had learned how to speak the language as a child. In his later years, Mr. Rybicki taught himself how to read and write in Polish, and also traveled to the country with his wife.

"He was very devoted to his wife and family," said his son, Thomas. "Everyone who ever met him was impressed with his enormous common sense."

In addition to his son, Thomas, surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Mary Wojcechowski; two sons, William and Stanley Jr.; a daughter, Anne Rybicki Schwartz; nine grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp."
