SSGT. Joseph Berube was shot down over New Guinea 63 years ago during World War II. His remains were recently identified through DNA donated by his brother Normand. On a day his family called a homecoming, Joseph Berube was buried, 63 years after he died. U.S. Army Air Corps Staff Sgt. Berube, known as Freddie, was aboard a B-25 Mitchell bomber over New Britain Island in New Guinea when it was downed by Japanese gunfire. Berube and three others died that day, Oct. 24, 1943. It was a long wait for about 30 family and friends to say their final goodbye since Berube's remains were not identified until recently. Most never really expected to see this. They had kind of given up on this happening. But his brother Normand, 83. was able to have closer.
