Luther Thomas Soapes was born on July 16, 1889 in Davidson County, Tennessee, and he was the son of William Drennon Soapes (1856-1953) and his wife Elizabeth (Stanfield) Soapes (1856-1902).

He was married 1st about 1911 to Lucy Emma Hartman (1891-1918), the daughter of J D Hartman and Nancie B (Garrett) Hartman. Luther was married 2nd on January 4, 1920 in Davidson County to Emma Josephine "Jo" DeMoss (1903–1984).

A night watchman for US Tobacco Company and living at 69 Twin Street, Nashville, he was 59 years old and married when he died fibroid pulmonary TB on November 30, 1948 at Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital where he had been for four days.

Survivors included his father, his wife, sons Thomas D Soapes and James Soapes of Nashville TN and Kenneth Soapes in the US Navy in Seattle WA, daughters Virrginia Soapes and Mrs James Newsom of Nashville TN and Mrs Ray Tanksley of Cheyenne WY, brothers J A Soapes and J T Soapes of Nashville TN and W D Soapes of Hopkinsville KY, sisters Mrs Sadie Stark, Mrs Floyd Neal and Mrs Oscar Todd of Nashville TN, Mrs George Richards of Antioch TN and Mrs Dennis Neal of La Vergne TN and five grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, and burial was on December 2nd in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
