James could neither read or write but still managed to support and raise his family. In 1870 his worth was $400. no small amount in those days.
He served in the Union Army - Co. I 33rd Missouri Vol. Infantry Aug. 14, 1862 to June 9, 1865 - Headstone Application Dec. 11, 1937 & shipped to Eckert Cem., Eckert, Colorado.
