Growing up in a Baptist home, he joined Salem Intuitional Baptist Church. He was the group leader over the Baptist Training Union. He was also the one of the pianist for the church.
David Wayne attended North Texas State in Denton, TX. He later transferred to Bishop College where he was a part of the college national choir. On July 16, 1963, he married Johnnie Mae Jackson. To that union four children were born, a son, David Wayne Mangram Jr (deceased), Zena Elizabeth Mangram, Yvette Mangram Harris (Heath) and Belinda Kaye Mangram.
David Wayne moved his family to Houston, Texas in 1976 for a promotion in High Performance Sales. He later earned his CDL license at which time he and his brother Archie Jr. started Mangram Trucking. David was a long haul driver for over 30 years until health no longer permitted.
David was proceeded in death by his father Archie, his mother, Bethel and sister Ernestine.
David leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Johnnie, his daughters, Zena, Yvette (Heath) and Belinda. His grandchildren, Anthony, Michael, Emil, Alexia, Heather and Heath. His great grandchildren, Anthony II, Alania, Christopher and Emil III. His brother Archie (Evelyn). And host of cousins, family and friends.
