Ramona E. Mitchell, age 77, of Leesburg, FL, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 in Tavares, Florida. Ramona was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to the Leesburg area in 2002 from St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands. She was a retired educator who specialized in bi-lingual education, and throughout her career spanning over 30 years she trained students from college to elementary levels. At the time of her retirement she was a teacher at the John H. Woodson Middle School in the U. S. Virgin Islands. Ramona was always a person who immersed herself in positivism, and she always saw the very best in people. She was a modest, and her strong Christian faith was evident by her love of people and her desire to help others. She loved her family and enjoyed watching the older movies on the Turner Classic Movie channel often. She was an active member of the Leesburg First Baptist Church, and volunteered at the Christian Care Center – “People Helpers.” She was pre-deceased by her daughter Diana.
Her survivors include her husband of 25 years – Jack; sons – David (Roselyn) Torres of Orlando and Robert Torres of Orlando; a daughter – Mary Elizabeth (Abelardo) Torres of San Juan, Puerto Rico; 4 grandchildren – Joel, Dimari, Emanuel, and Coral , 5 great-grandchildren and her step-children Winona Miller and Daxton Mitchell, and their families. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Ramona’s name to the Christian Care Center C/O Leesburg First Baptist Church, 220 N. 13th St., Leesburg, FL 34748.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, Florida.
