Professional Hockey Player. MacLeish's hockey career began in Peterborough, Ontario with the Petes of the OHA. He was a fourth-round pick of the Boston Bruins in 1970, but was traded to the Flyers and began his NHL career in the 1970-71 season, with two goals and four assists in 26 games. He became a regular part of the Flyers lineup in the 1972-73 season, playing in 78 games, posting his first 50-goal season and had an even 100 points on the season. The next year, he only scored 32 goals and added 13 more in the playoffs, but it was the last one that is perhaps the greatest in Flyers history. On May 19, 1974, in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, MacLeish deflected a Andre Dupont shot past Gilles Gilbert at 14:48 of the first period. A few hours later, MacLeish and the Flyers were hoisting the Stanley Cup for the first time. He spent parts of 12 seasons with the Flyers, including 11 straight from 1970-71 to 1980-81. He ranks first all-time in Flyers history with 10 game-winning goals and accumulated 697 points as a Flyer, which ranks fourth all time in franchise history, while also recording 328 goals (6th in Flyers history) and 369 assists (T-5th in Flyers history) in 741 games (T-6th in Flyers history). He also ranks second in franchise history with 12 regular season hat tricks, only behind Tim Kerr’s mark of 17. MacLeish is tied for the most playoff goals scored in club history with 53, and ranks fourth all-time in Flyers history with 105 points in 108 playoff games. The three-time All-Star was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame in its third year of existence on Mar. 22, 1990. MacLeish had been battling meningitis, along with kidney and liver problems, according to family members.
