Wilma Isabel
Funeral services for Wilma Adel Isabel, 77, Atalissa, were held Feb. 5, 1996, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery, with Rev. Richard Paulus officiating at the graveside committal service.
Mrs. Isabel died Feb. 1 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from congestive heart failure.
The daughter of William and Mattie Mae Thompson Henderson, she was born March 10, 1918 in Center West Township in Cedar County. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1936. She married Ray Allen Isabel Nov. 22, 1939 at the Mt. Zion church, Tipton.
Mrs. Isabel was a homemaker and cook for the West Branch community schools for 12 years. She was also the Oak Hill correspondent for the Tipton Conservative and The West Liberty Index. She was a greeter at the East Side Cafe in West Branch.
She was a member of the Rochester Methodist church, the United Methodist Women, the Oak Hill club, the Mt. Zion community Workers and had served as president and treasurer of her church.
Mrs. Isabel was also a member of the Cedar County Canasta Card Club, the Cedar County Cooks Association, the Cedar County Homemakers, the Cedar County Genealogy Society and Cedar County Volunteer Services. She served as a former leader of the Rochester 4-H clubs, was a former Queen and committee member of the Snapper City Labor Day celebration, a volunteer at Floral Hall at the Cedar County Fair and a member of the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Barb (Mrs. Jerry) Wood, Rochester and Betty (Mrs. Gerald) Holt, Indianola; a son, Mike (Sandy) Rummells, Atalissa; a sister, Freda McDowell, Davenport; 2 daughters-in-law, Cathy Isabel, Atalissa and Jan Isabel, West Liberty; a sister-in-law, Lela Isabel, Atalissa; a brother-in-law, Joe Isabel, West Liberty; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Feb. 15, 1979; 2 sons, Robert and William; and a grandson, Brett Wood.
