Lewis Shepherd, Jr., 81, of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, Illinois. Mr. Shepherd was born February 18, 1925 in Dardanelle, Arkansas to Lewis, Sr. and Eunice (Lenoir) Harris. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II. He married Opal Holland in 1948 in Rock Island. In 1962 he married Betty Burke in Rock Island. She died in 1983. Mr. Shepherd worked at the former John Deere Malleable, East Moline, Illinois, and was a member of Bethel A.M.E., Davenport. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Henry) Westerfield of Milpitas, California, Carol Shepherd of Rock Island, Tammy A. (Charles) Thomas of Davenport, and Missi B. (James Williams) Shepherd of Kansas City, Missouri; sons, Lewis Shepherd, John Shepherd and Vincent Shepherd, all of Rock Island, and Wendell Terry of Davenport; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and sisters, Sharon Darden, Marilyn Swinney, and Ruth Emily Kirby, all of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
