Marjorie R. Hershenow, 85, of St. Mary's City, MD, beloved mother of Margaret A. (Peggy) Carlton and William J. (Bill) Hershenow III, died of Alzheimer's Disease and complications from Diabetes on February 17, 2006 at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.

Marge was born Marjorie Rosa Budd in Montain View, CA on July 24, 1920 to Arthur Charles Budd and May Middleton Kinnear who had come England to America with Marge's sister Winifred in 1919. Learning to drive at age 13, Marge helped move cars around her father Charlie's service station in Los Altos, CA. After finishing school, Marge's first job was as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Los Altos.

In 1941 Marge met and married 1st Lt. William J. Hershenow, Jr., U.S.A. who had just graduated from West Point. During their marriage they moved from Arizona, to Florida, California, Hawaii, Maryland, Alabama, and back to California after Bill retired from the Air Force. Marge spent most of her life raising their children. When Peggy and Bill went off to the University of California and West Point, Marge started working once again as a secretary and then as a librarian.

Family mattered most to Marge; she planned her vacations around visits to Peggy and her husband Ken (now in St. Mary's City) and their children Sherry (and Dan Tierney), Chris, and Stephen as well as her son Bill (Littleton, CO) with children Alison (and Brian Robbins) and Laura. She enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren, Connor and Rachel Tierney and her favorite dog Niner. Other interests included gardening, traveling and reading. Marge was still driving her friends on day trips until she started forgetting where she was going. The California postcard and gasoline industries suffered dearly when she moved to Virginia and then Maryland to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Her many travel buddies were still calling to check on her this year.
