The funeral service in his honor will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Joy Starwalt will officiate. Interment will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the service begins.
Born August 9, 1931, in Panola, IL, Allen was the son of Hobert M., Sr., and Pearl M. (Adams) Robertson. He married Goldie L. (Carter) on September 15, 1950. She passed away August 26, 1996. He later remarried. Survivors include five children, Allen Robertson, Jr. and wife Loretta of Mattoon, IL, James Robertson of Marsfield, MO, Doreen K. Sweeney and husband Dean of Mattoon, IL, Darren R. Robertson and partner Julie Fitzpatrick of Mattoon, IL, and Jackie S. Montgomery and husband Chuck of Pittsburg, TX; one brother, Roy Robertson of Streator, IL; and four sisters, Rose Coody of Toluca, IL, Lois Murry of Streator, IL, Carol Gula of Streator, IL, and Sandra Hjerpe of Plymouth, IN. He leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Roger N. Robertson and Gary L. Robertson; one daughter, Kathy M. Homann; five brothers, and three sisters.
Mr. Robertson served our country with the United States Army 11th Airborne as a paratrooper. He later earned a living as a truck driver. He was a member of the Mattoon Moose and Mattoon V.F.W.
In his free time, Allen enjoyed fishing and making lawn ornaments. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his entire family.
