NORWICH – Sandra Ann McLaughlin, 71, of Norwich, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at Upstate Medical Center.
Sandra was born Sept. 14,1940 in Utica, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Eva Wittenbeck. Raised in Waterville, Sandra graduated from Waterville Central School. She met her husband, the late Spencer J McLaughlin and the two were married on Aug. 6, 1960. Sandra and Spencer raised their three children in Waterville before moving to Norwich in 1987. In the years that followed, Sandra worked at the family business, McLaughlin’s Department Store. She was also involved with the Norwich YMCA and eventually received a cosmetology degree, which ultimately led her to own her own nail salon for many years. Sandra had many hobbies that she enjoyed, in her earlier years she raised and participated in dog show competitions, loved to garden, enjoyed jewelry making and last but certainly not least, she loved to shop. She found great joy in showering those she loved with gifts, especially her grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Sandra was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Wittenbeck; sisters-in-law, Joan McLaughlin, Betty Doyle and Arlene McLaughlin and brother-in-law, Edward Doyle. She is survived by her three sons, Mark, Scott (Anna) and David (Annemarie); five grandchildren, Megan, Casey, Michael, Spencer and Ryan; her brother-in-law, Clifford McLaughlin, Jr., sisters-in-law, Joan (Carter) Stephenson, Jeanette (Robert) McCredy and Joan Wittenbeck; her special niece, Cindy (Robert) Supinski along with many other nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY. Interment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Bernard’s Church on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made in Sandy’s name to Cure PSP at https://give.psp.org.
