Obituary of Margie Lynn Hughes
(circa 1947 ~ May 28, 2016)

Margie Lynn Hughes, age 69 of Pass Christian, Mississippi passed away May 28, 2016 after a three month battle with Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis. From the beginning, Lynn knew this would be a short battle. She chose to spend her time praising God and living each day to the fullest.

Lynn was the treasured wife of Larry Hughes for 24 years. She was the beloved mother of Rachel Campbell (Trey), Phillip Lawing (Michelle), Tim Lawing (Jennifer), and Brandi Ivie Traylor (Joey). She had eight grandchildren that she loved beyond words: Sarah,Lindsey, Grace, Sam, Shelby, Haleigh, Addison, and Bristol. She also leaves behind her mother, Joyce Whitaker; sisters, Sue Green, Lydia Medders, Michelle Whitaker; and brother, Travis Whitaker; many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Lynn was a beautiful person; inside and out. She enjoyed wearing silly hats, being outdoors, having fun with family and friends, and creating memories with her grandchildren. She was known as “Granny Lynn” to countless children that she claimed as her own.

Professionally, Lynn worked in insurance and finance most of her career. When she moved to Pass Christian, she was employed at CC Lynch and Associates, State Farm Insurance, and most recently was an independent insurance agent licensed in Alabama and Mississippi. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Long Beach and a member of The Seekers Sunday school class.

On her behalf, her children would like to thank her Oncologist, Dr. Allison Wall and the amazing medical team who “bought her more time”: Dr. Ware, Dr. Melgar, Dr. Penico, Dr. Pande, and Dr. Libbys, Kimberly Torrington, RN and the incredible nursing and therapy staff at Memorial Hospital Gulfport. Then, especially Kare in Home Health and Hospice for making her wish of being in her own home on the bayou a comfortable reality.

Lynn always viewed this recent illness as a “Win Win situation”, because as she would often say, "To be apart from the body is to be present with her Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:7-8)

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to her special friend, Steve Johnson (Scuba Steve) to aid in his own fight with cancer. Donations may be made to Steve Johnson, c/o CC Lynch and Associates, PO Box 836, Pass Christian, Mississippi, 39571
