Betty J. Gonzales, 81, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Tuesday evening, October 1, 2013 at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Tim Schoepf; Visitation: from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 9:30 A.M. on Monday at the church; Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein, Iowa.

Memorials may be given in her name to the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, Iowa.

Betty Jean Sorensen was born on January 14, 1932 at Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Tyggo and Lucille (Payne) Sorensen. She graduated from Oelwein High School at Oelwein, Iowa. Betty married Reuben Roy Gonzales on June 1, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, Iowa. She was a master seamstress for over 20 years at Oelwein Interior Decorating and later was manager at the Oelwein Senior Mealsite. Betty enjoyed teaching her four sons how to cook and sew and teaching her daughter-in-law Lora how to cook all the family favorite Mexican foods. She loved country and old time music and playing bingo. Betty was known as a great baker to her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and had been a resident of Grandview Health Care Center the last year.

Betty is survived by her 2 sons; Richard (Marilyn) Gonzales of Houston, Texas and Jerry (Lora) Gonzales of Oelwein, Iowa; 7 Grandchildren—David (Sara) Gonzales, Keven (Diana) Gonzales, Ryan (Amiko) Gonzales, Jeremy Gonzales, Alissa Gonzales, Devin Gonzales and Logan Gonzales; 3 Great Grandchildren—Ashley Gonzales, Brendon Gonzales and Kylee Gonzales; many Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents-husband (Reuben R. Gonzales on September 5, 2012)-2 sons (Randy Gonzales on October 10, 2003 and Michael Gonzales on December 15, 2005) and a sister (Dixie Sorensen Springer).

Family and friends were most important to Betty.
