William Hix* was the brother of John, Caswell and Thomas Hix, all of whom were born in Tennessee. William Hix was the husband of Mary "Polly" Rose with whom he had five children:

William was killed in a tree-felling accident which has been recorded in the U.S. Federal Mortality Index of 1860. A descendant related the story that it had been planned to bury William Hix in the Turkeytown Cemetery in Clay County, Tennessee but "the river was so high that they couldn't get across" and he was buried on a wooded hillside instead.
