Sister Connie Lee Gladney Cross was born in Attala County, Kosciusko, Mississippi on September 24, 1923 to Robert and Lillie Gladney. On Saturday, April 23, 2016, God called our charitable, loving, mother, sister and grandmother home after a lengthy illness.

She was united in holy matrimony to Turner Cross on April 24, 1943 and to this union was born five children. She was a devoted, caring wife and an affectionate mother and grandmother.

Sister Cross was an extraordinary individual who put God first in her life. She was loved and respected by all who came in contact with her because to know her was to love her. Her unique mannerisms and easy-going personality placed her in a class of her own.

Her educational training took place at Attala County Training School, Saints Jr. College, as well as Tougaloo College. She was a homemaker, farmer and an educator in the Head Start Program.

Early in her life, Connie confessed Christ and was baptized and added to His Body (The Church of Christ). She was very faithful in attendance and was a dedicated and devoted Sunday School Teacher. She touched the lives of so many individuals and will be sorely missed by all of them.

Sister Cross was preceded in death by her husband (Turner), a son (Martin Luther Cross), and a daughter (Doris Jean Watson). Left to cherish her life on this earth are three daughters: Jeanetta Williams, Jackson, MS; Lee Ester Horn, Greenwood, MS; Shirley Grayson, Itta Bena, MS; and adopted daughter Alberta Fuller (Jimmy), Kosciusko, MS; two sons-in-law: Leroy Watson, Kosciusko, MS and Lawrence Horn, Greenwood, MS; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Cross, Kosciusko, MS; five grand-daughters: Benita Grayson, Memphis, TN; Latrina Williams and Kenya Horn both of Byram, MS; Diana Cross and Latisha Watson both of Kosciusko, MS; four great-grandchildren: Kya Redmond, Byram, MS; Raymond Cross, Bearna Hughes and Sharay Hughes, all of Kosciusko, MS; one sister Kathleen Nash and one brother Freddie Gladney both of Milwaukee, WI; six sisters-in-law: Etta Mae Cross, Memphis, TN; Minnie Cross, Kosciusko, MS; Mildred Torrence (Joe), Riverside, CA; Elee Welch, Chicago, IL; Evelyn Beacham (Herman), Milwaukee, WI and Mary Cross, Milwaukee, WI; two brothers-in-law: L.B.
