Lawrence was born October 17, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas to Clarence and Erma (Sanner) Adkins. He served in the United States Navy for ten years from 1958 to 1968. He worked for over 31 years for Lucent Technologies and retired in 2003. In his free time, Lawrence enjoyed fishing, playing golf and traveling.
Lawrence married Patricia (Painter) Reid in 1987 in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death August 6, 2008. He was also preceded in death by sister, Mary Weiss, brother, Clarence Adkins, daughter, Michelle Cornelius and granddaughter, Jennifer Cornelius.
Surviving family includes daughter, Julie (Greg) Rhodes, sons, Mike (Kelly) Adkins, Lawrence Adkins, Jr., Scott Adkins, William (Maureen) Reid, Robert Reid, all of St. Joseph; Ron (Lou) Reid, of Melvern, KS; Terry Reid, Clarksdale, MO; and Todd (Christina) Reid, Salina, KS; sister, Joy Fern Mayhew, of Fontana, KS; 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Services 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery.
