John Raymond Bartels, 51, of Dubuque, formerly of Oxford Junction, died Wednesday at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City.
The funeral will be 2 pm Saturday at Carson & Son Funeral Home, Maquoketa, with the Rev Ron Lashmit of Four Square Church, Tipton, officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, where full military rites will be accorded.
He was born June 5, 1946, in Clinton, to LeRoy W and Hazel Clampitt Bartels. He married Donna Dean in 1972, in Iowa City.
He was a 1964 graduate of Oxford Junction High School, and attended HVAC Technical College in Omaha, NE.
He was a veteran of [World War II](**it had to be the Vietnam war!!) , serving in the US Army.
He had been employed with Albaugh Co. in Iowa City, Novak Co. in Cedar Rapids, and had farmed in the Oxford Junction area. He had lived in Dubuque for the past few years working as a carpenter and HVAC installer.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jodi (Lee) Kenney of Cedar Rapids, Erin Bartels of Iowa City, and Kristin Bartels of Tipton; a granddaughter; his mother and step-father, Hazel and Don Warner of Baldwin; a brother, Ron Bartels of Bay CIty, WI; and a sister, Mrs. Brenda (Jerry) Burgus of Waimea, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his father.
