Jo Fern Dennis
Born: March 14, 1928
Died: May 27, 2016

Jo Fern Dennis 88, of Amarillo died Friday, May 27, 2016 in Amarillo.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery, East Mausoleum with Bob Miller, pastor of Crossroads Country Church officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Park East Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St.

Jo Fern George Dennis left this world on May 27th in Amarillo Texas. She was surrounded by close family and her Lord and Savior. She believed in Jesus Christ and accepted him at an early age and was a member of Crossroads Church in Amarillo Texas.

As a child of the depression, she and her family moved across several areas of Texas during her childhood but her father worked at the IBEX plant near Albany. She attended Albany High School and graduated in 1946.

A preacher’s daughter by birthright, she followed the normal behavioral pattern of such by eloping with the local trouble maker, Arthur Dennis, in Albany Texas on October 7, 1947. After the birth of their first child, Jo followed Arthur around West Texas in the oil and gas business and moved frequently. Over time the moves grew tiring and they decided to settle in Lamesa, Texas. Jo worked in several local businesses before starting her own real estate firm. She was known by customers and competitors as an honest and trustworthy professional. She adamantly believed in the golden rule and practiced what she preached in her business for more than thirty years. In 1987, she and Arthur moved to Midland, Texas where she continued her real estate practice until she retired in 2005.

She was a member of many sororities and social clubs. Most notably, she was an Eastern Star member for over 20 years and had served multiple times as Worthy Matron. Jo resided with her daughter in Amarillo Texas since the death of her husband in 2012. She was “one of a kind” and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur E. Dennis, her daughter Connie Lee, her son, David E. Dennis, mother Opal George, father Stewart George, and her brother, Donald George.

She is survived by Jeff & Tammy Dennis of Midland Texas, Tandy & George Aguirre of Amarillo Texas, Todd Dennis of Austin Texas, Larry Lee of Amarillo Texas, a brother, Harry George of Linden, Texas, and grandchildren, Geoffrey Dennis of Midland, TX, Trevor & Brooke Lee of Brownfield TX, Caysi Dennis of Lawrenceville, NJ, Trampus J. & Angela Lee of Colorado City, TX, Molly Dennis of Midland TX, Dustin Dennis of Deep South Austin, TX, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the charity of your choice.
