Mr. Shaffer, 77, of Faribault, a former cheese maker in Wasioja, died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 2006) at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault.
He was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Bruce, Wis, son of Leo LeRoy and Emerice Irene (Fleener) Shaffer. He married LaVoy Marie Kramer on Sept. 2, 1948, in Mantorville. He served overseas in the Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He was a cheese maker in Wasioja and operated creameries in Sogn and Prairieville. He was later employed by the Associated Milk Producers Inc., (AMPI) of New Ulm, Minn., and also worked with the Hillebrand and Donkers families on their farms.
Survivors include his wife, LaVoy; two daughters, Lynda (John) Kern of Red Wing and Lisa (Larry Schreiber) Shaffer-Schreiber of Little Canada, Minn.; two grandchildren, Carrie Kern and Joshua Kern; and a sister, Doris Herrick of Grand Junction, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willard Shaffer.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Faribault Area Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
