Our mother, Vera, was born on Nov 23, 1908 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. She was the youngest of Andrew and Margaret Wilson's children. Her father was a British Army sergeant who was stationed in various countries throughout the world with his last posting being Northern Ireland, where our Mother resided most of her life.

She was employed as a waitress and it was during this time that she met our father, Thomas Dobbin, and married in 1944. Together they had five children, one of whom was stillborn.

As a homemaker, she was a devoted wife and mother with her hobbies being traveling and reading.

In 1974, after their children were married, our parents immigrated and joined daughter Florence and her husband Brian Chipp-Smith in Toronto, Canada. Because of a desire to be closer to her sister in Michigan, the Chipp-Smith family moved to Windsor in 1976.

Together Vera and Thomas Dobbin travelled through the world until the passing of Thomas in 1989. Vera continued to travel - her last trip was to attend her granddaughter's wedding in Britain in September 2001. After experiencing much joy at her wedding, it was on Vera's 93rd birthday, Nov 23, 2001, that she received the sad news that her sister Peggy in Michigan had passed away 50 days short of age 100.

Throughout our Mother's long life, her courage, kindness, and unfailing good spirits had won her a special place in the hearts of many people, not only in Britain but throughout the world. Although we mourn her passing, it is an occasion to give thanks for a very long and special life. She lived according to values and traditions that provided stability and continuity to many people. Her real and lively faith radiated from her and continue to enrich the life of her family who survive her, including her daughter Elizabeth and her husband Joe Millar, Robert and wife Myrtle Dobbin of Great Britain, Samuel Dobbin and family of Australia, Florence and her husband Brian Chipp-Smith of Ontario, Canada, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

We shall miss her and know that we have lost a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt; however, this loss is only temporary because we know that in God's time we shall meet again to join our dear Mother and Father at which time we shall rejoice in the presence of our Lord and Saviour.
