Dr. Thomas Gary Olsen age 87, of La Crosse Wisconsin passed away peacefully at Gundersen Hospital on Thursday May 26, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 6, 1929 to Raymond A. Olsen and Norma Birdsell Olsen of La Crosse. He was married to Carol (Woodford) Olsen on August 21, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, WI.
Tom received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1956 and radiology residency training at Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio. Tom went on to become the 39th physician to join the Marshfield Clinic in 1960 where he practiced radiology until 1982.
Tom was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed travel, golf, fishing, camping, spending time with friends and family, bowling and skiing. He was a kind and patient man and freely expressed his gratitude toward others.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ronald R. Olsen PhD, Glenn A. Olsen and sister Nana Rae Olsen. Tom is survived by his wife Carol, children Kristen Olsen and husband Erick Ajax, Karen Olsen, Dr. John Olsen and wife Shelly and grandchildren Anna, Elise and Georgia and Sara (Olsen) Dowling and husband Daniel Dowling and grandchildren Leo and Madeline Dowling.
The family would like to thank the skilled and caring staff at Gundersen Hospital for their graceful and attentive care and support.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Tom's life in June. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
