Betty Washburn McGhee, age 85, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Carolinas HealthCare System-Blue Ridge in Morganton, North Carolina. The daughter of the late Arvey Pete and Maggie King Washburn, she was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on November 1st, 1935.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Sinclair McGhee, who passed away in 2001; and one sister Ruth Edwards.
Betty enjoyed making flower arrangements for family and friends to place in cemeteries for Decoration Day or for any other special occasion. She truly loved spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren who were like her own children.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Jo Lopes (Ralph); two sons, Kenneth McGhee and Allen McGhee (Angie); six grandchildren, Steven Phillips, Dan Jo Lopes, Erica McGhee, Angel Lewis, Justin McGhee and Samantha McGhee; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Jackie Reif, Irene McKinney and Joyce Self; and four brothers, Johnny Washburn, Jim Washburn, Bill Washburn and Donald Washburn.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Remnant Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Marion. Casual clothing is preferred for those who may be attending.
