Funeral services for Joseph R. (Joe) Baker of Gatesville, a retired city employee, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel. Rev. W. C. Terrell and Rev. Jim Bolding conducted the services, and burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Baker, 69, was fatally stricken with an apparent heart attack on Dec. 26.
Born in Fairfield on Dec. 20, 1909, Mr. Baker had lived in Gatesville the last 31 years. He did carpentry work and then was employed by the city for a number of years before retiring in early 1974.
He married Miss Clellie Bynum on April 22, 1944, at Pearl. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.
Surviving are his wife; one sister, Mrs. Lois Day of Fairfield; and a brother, James Baker of Fairfield.
Pallbearers for Mr. Baker's funeral were Ray Featherston, E. J. Jones, I. V. Pate, Curtis Davis, Dr. Oley Beard, Virgil Music, Paul Kirkland and Herman Sims.
