Jesse stated he was born in Little Rock. It is apparent that Baker and his first wife, Mary A. (nee Dark) Cypert divorced or he committed bigamy when he married 2nd Mary George of modern-day Baxter Co., AR.

Baker's daughter, Emma (nee Cypert) Kaufman was born 15 Jul 1870. She was named as a sister in Mary George and Baker's son, Jesse Newton Cypert's obit. Baker's other children, Thomas Jefferson Cypert and Martha Paralee (nee Cypert) Harrington were also named in Jesse Newton Cypert's obit as his siblings.

Baker enlisted with his brother, Robert Bruce Cypert as a Pvt. in Co. E. 27th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, CSA on 11 Mar 1862 in Marion Co., AR. He gave his age as 27. He was reported as a deserter on 21 Dec 1862.

Baker and his brother, Robert and their families are not on the 1870 census. Baker's first wife, Mary (nee Dark) Cypert and their children counted on the 1870 Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR census.

In 1880 Baker's children, Mary C. (nee Cypert) Stewart and Emma D. Cypert, age 9, were counted in Cadron (modern-day Conway), Faulkner Co., AR household of Betsy J. Long and her children, Maggie H. Long, 23, born in AR and Jackson H. Long, age 21, born in AR, and Emma was listed as Betsy's granddaughter.
