Matilda Hitchcock died in Weathersfield, VT on November 27, 1814. She was born on September 24, 1783 in Charlestown, NH; the daughter of Phineas and Abigail (Reed) Hutchins.

She married George Wheaton Sumner in November of 1803 who preceded her in death.

She married Lemuel Hitchcock on August 18, 1809.

Surviving is her husband, daughter Caroline Sumner, daughter Esther Hitchcock, and son Lorenzo Hitchcock.

Burial is in Union cemetery.
