Verna Cox, 86, resident of the McAlester area for many years, died, Thursday in a local nursing home. She was born July 7, 1891 in Arkansas before marrying Charles Cox in 1911 and moving to Canadian. Mr Cox preceded her in death in 1976. She was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Tessie Ophelia Riddle of Texas, Amy Elizabeth Graves of McAlester, and Cannie King of Blanchard; two brothers, Walter Herman Monks of Haywood and Finis Roger Monks of Tulsa with one brother, Alex Kermit Monks having preceded her in death June of 1976.
Funeral services will take place Thursday at 2 pm in the Chaney's Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Sisco officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens with Champ Hodges, Otis Duran, James Arnold, Carrol Allen, Ray Arnold, and Pete Roberts serving as pallbearers.
