Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Jan. 1, 1927, in McAlester, he was the son of Clinton Samuel and Laura Gertrude Williams Cornish. He grew up in McAlester where he attended school, graduating from McAlester High School.
After graduation, he entered the United States Navy on Dec. 19, 1944, in Oklahoma City. He was a fireman first class, receiving an honorable discharge on July 3, 1946, in Norman.
He worked as an assistant manager for Montgomery Ward. He worked for the streets and roads department for the city of McAlester. He later went to work for Komar, where he retired from the maintenance department.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, also, his grandchildren and spouses, and, his great-grandchildren; a brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Laura Cornish; a son, Billy Cornish in 1978; a grandson, Justin Rose in 2004; his brothers, Amasa and Sanford Cornish, and a sister, Virgie Swindell.
