He attended Fort Myers High School and fought with the 6th Marine Division. He worked in communications most of his life, a career that began with Inter-County Telephone and ended with Sprint.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Elmo Franklin and Katherine Juanita (Macmillian) Franklin, and a son, Ernest Eugene Franklin.
Survived by his wife of 52 years, Ingvor Victoria (Davison) Franklin, two sisters and brothers-in-law, a brother, two daughters and sons-in-law, and four grandchildren and his two Jack Russells, Holly-Polly and Paco.
