Born May 14, 1929, in Bradys Bend, she was the daughter of James J. and Tillie B. (Olcus) McGarrity.
On Oct. 14, 1950, Mary Ellen married Lewis M. "Bud" Curran. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 2013.
Mary Ellen and her husband owned and operated Currans Market in East Brady for 42 years. Prior to that, Mary Ellen worked at the Kaylor Grange Store.
She was a member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, where she participated in the Ladies Guild and helped with all church functions. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.
Mary Ellen is survived by one daughter; Marcia Sweeney and husband, Rich, of East Brady; and two sons. Mike Curran and wife, Sherry, of East Brady, and Jim Curran and wife, Darla, of Chicora.
She is also survived by two granddaughters, Amanda (Corey) Gallagher and Michelle (Jim) Wilson; and five grandsons, Joel (Kati) Sweeney, Jake (Cortney) Sweeney, Ben (Sarah) Curran, Seth (Ashley) Curran and Noah Curran; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Raymond.
